Herds with, for example, 225 dairy cows spend an average of 1 hour per week dealing with the seven most frequent diseases in dairy cows, i.e. mastitis, lameness, metritis, retained placenta, left-displaced abomasum, ketosis and milk fever. However, the working time is only representing a minimum, i.e. approx. $12.5 of the total loss per case of illness averaging $282. The figures are based on a study at Kentucky University (Liang et al., 2017) .

In practical tests involving 6 herds with a total of 2,700 dairy cows, it was concluded that the incidence of diseases falls by 0.25 cases per cow per year (corresponding to 23%) when precision mineral supplementation is used, offering extra mineral supplements via PitstopPLUS feeders in the period from 3 weeks before to 3 months after calving - see https://www.microfeeder.com/News_specific?id=376. The diseases that were registered in the test were defined as some that require the involvement of a veterinarian, which broadly means the seven diseases mentioned above.

By using PitstopPLUS you can thus save approx. a quarter of an hour per week to take care of sick cows. The time saved is more than enough to fill minerals in 3 PitstopPLUS feeders.
